You want to start a blog, but what do you write about?

I've been getting A LOT of questions about 'what to write' if you start a blog.

The answer is as infinite as the stars.

But let's sketch out some possible directions you can take and then I'll leave you with my suggestion with an exclamation mark!

First, let's get into a little background about blogs.

You're reading a blog right now.  A blog is basically a website that contains an individual's articles or a collection of material that they gathered up and posted on their 'blog.'

Understand that you do not need a blog to be successful with Internet Marketing.  It is simply another great way to attract people to you for a very low or no cost.  There are free blogs out there, but I don't think they look very good.  I've suggested Squarespace for it's user-friendliness and low cost (free for 30 days and then as low as $7 a month).  Here's a link if you'd like to set up a free trial for 30 days and see how it goes:  www.AttractiveMarketer.com

You don't need to know HTML or anything about building websites to put a blog together.  I certainly don't, which is why my blog looks pretty plain right now.  I could still make my blog a lot 'prettier' without knowing anything about HTML I just haven't gotten around to it.

The most important thing to do with your blog at first is to put content on it.  This can be your article or an article written by someone else.  You have to give credit to the original author unless you purchase an article or find one that is available to use.  There are many resources out there on the Internet to help you write articles for a very low cost.  There are also many resources out there to find articles you can use to put on your blog.

If you really don't want to write much, but you want a blog, I suggest you keep it simple.  Unless you work hard at finding articles to use or hire people to write your articles, you probably shouldn't expect to rank high on the search engines with your blog.  But there are many other uses for a blog.  As I mentioned before, it gives you a certain level of authority--it's a place of your own to direct people to.  It's something you can expand going forward.

But let's say you do like to write, or at least, feel comfortable with.  A blog is where you may end up focusing most of your Internet marketing efforts.  It can be a huge source of traffic if you stick with blogging.  You can rank high on the search engines for specific terms and get a constant flow of traffic and leads.  You can monetize your blog and create additional revenue sources with ease.  It's limitless what a blog can do for you and your business if you enjoy it and stick with it.

So, back to 'what you write on your blog?'

If you're using your blog to attract prospects to you for a networking marketing business or product, first choose your target market.

Who are they?

Really think about your target market.

Is it network marketers?

Is it a specific group of network marketers?  For example, is it network marketers who already know a lot about the new networking model.  Or, is it beginners?

Is it home-based business seekers who know they want a business from home, are actively seeking one, but don't yet know much about network marketing?

Is it potential product customers?  For all your products are just one?

You must decide your key target market.

Remember, you can have more than one blog.  This is very common.

Of course, start with one and stick to that for a while.  But after a few months you can start a second one if you like it.

So first, choose ONE target market and start ONE blog...

As we have talked about extensively here and on our trainings, a target market within the network marketing audience will give you the greatest level of leverage and growth potential in your business.  So I'm going to continue with that group in mind.

But again, be even more specific when starting your blog for the first time.

Do you want to attract network marketers who don't know a thing about the new networking marketing model?

Do you want to attract leaders?

Do you want to attract beginners with leadership potential?

If you don't know and can't figure it out it is always better to start from anywhere... but always keep these questions in mind every step of the way.  Then you'll begin to develop the answers as you go along.

For example, I originally started my blog here out to go after Network Marketers in general.

The goal was to introduce them to the 'new model.'

Then, as I got further into this I realized just how bit the market will become for those who purchase The Renegade ebook.  I have started to focus my articles to that audience exclusively.

So what I write about is going to be articles that service those people who have purchased The Renegade.

But I've identified it even further.  I want to target beginners.  Why?

Because this will be the largest audience.  There will be millions of new people moving to the Internet for the first time to build their business.  I believe The Renegade Network Marketer ebook could sell millions of copies.  I believe it's going to create a phenomenon.  I have decided to focus my blog to service all the people who just purchased The Renegade Network Marketer ebook, or who are ready to, and to give value to them.

So what articles would I write.  Look all over this blog for the answer.

And what is my answer to you about what 'you should write?'

I strongly encourage you to do what I am doing.

Embrace the new model to become a solutions provider first.  Write about the concepts, ideas, tools and issues surrounding the new model.  Write about the debates.  Write about the resources out there.  Write about how you are marketing.  Write about how others are marketing.  Take a point I have made here or that you hear Ann Sieg mention on the interview the other day, and write an article that expands upon it.

Use key words that you want to come up in the search engines.  Create articles that are very key word rich.  You'll notice that there are some articles where this was my intent here in this blog.  Use key words like:

The Renegade

The Renegade Network Marketer

Renegade Network Marketing

Ann Sieg

Network Marketing

The Renegade Network Marketer ebook

The Renegade system

Note that each of the items above are different.  Go to Google.com right now and type these in.  Notice the results will vary.  You will find my blog comes up on the 1st or 2nd page, or articles that I have submitted to places like Digg.com will will show up.  I get a lot of traffic from this.  You can too!

Research the places I just talked about.  Look at other blogs that rank high on the search engines for these and other related key words and see what they are writing about.

This is my recommendation to you about 'what to write about'!

We'll have a free Webinar event to help you start your own blog for The Renegade process on October 1st.  Join our training list to receive updates about this and other Renegade System training related events.
