Online Business Promotion: Should You Promote Your Network Marketing Business Opportunity Or Yourself Online?
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 08:20PM When marketing your business using internet network marketing you need to decide upon your business promotion strategy. You can decide to promote your business opportunity online or you can decide to promote yourself instead.
Here are some reasons why I believe promoting yourself is superior to promoting your business opportunity.
Branding Yourself

Most network marketing distributors in your business are promoting the opportunity. If you also promote your network marketing opportunity you have nothing that distinguishes you from the other distributors in your business.
Promoting and branding yourself gives you a distinct advantage over other distributors in your business. While you can’t distinguish the opportunity, you can make distinctions about yourself and your unique selling proposition.
In other words, you can let people know why they should do business with you in particular, as opposed to all the other distributors in your network marketing company.
Network marketing is a highly regulated industry. As such many companies have restrictions on how you can market the opportunity.
There may be certain verbiage that you can’t use when advertising the company. In some cases you aren’t even able to advertise the opportunity at all. As long as you don’t go into details about your product or opportunity the requirements aren’t as strenuous.
Multiple Streams of Income

When promoting yourself you have the ability to increase the income that is available to you. If you promote only your network marketing business, you have eliminated your chances of earning income off any prospect who is not interested in your business opportunity.
However, if you promote yourself you can create multiple streams of income for your business. You can provide information products, or promote affiliate products.
By providing generic information products, you broaden your customer base and therefore increase your income potential.
Your Business is Not Dependent on One Network Marketing Company
What happens if you decide to pursue a different opportunity? What happens if the network marketing opportunity you are involved in goes out of business?
If you are promoting yourself, you can make modifications to easily change the opportunity that you plug your team into. However, if you are promoting the business opportunity, you will need to change all of your marketing materials.
Network marketing is a relationship business. People are attracted to you as a person. They aren’t necessary attracted to your company or your products. This means that distance isn't necessarily an issue either. Using the internet to help build your relationships helps attract others to you and your business.
By promoting yourself as a person online, you draw in people who would be attracted to the type of person you are on initial contact. If you lead with the business opportunity, people won’t know anything about you until the first contact is made.
People Join People, Not Network Marketing Companies
People want to deal with people. They don’t want to deal with network marketing companies. One of the benefits to network marketing is the relationship aspect of the business.
By promoting yourself online you allow your personality to come forth. When you promote the business opportunity first, it’s difficult to convey your personality.
There are a number of benefits to promoting yourself over the business opportunity. If you are currently not leading with yourself, but you’re leading with the network marketing opportunity instead, you might want to reconsider your approach.
