Two New Companies Receive Approved Applications to The Direct Sales Association

The Direct Sales Association, the national trade association for companies that utilize the direct sales business model to market their products and services recently announced that two companies have received approvals for their membership applications.

The first company approved is All Dazzle. This is a 12 year old direct sales company that markets jewelry using a team of independent home party representatives.

The second company approved is Thrivent Financial at Home. This company markets financial related products such as health insurance, life insurance and investment programs using a team of independent representatives that they refer to as “financial guides.”

In order to have their application to the Direct Sales Association approved both companies had to go through a year long evaluation process. During this time, All Dazzle and Thrivent Financial At Home had their marketing and business plans reviewed to ensure that they lined up with the Direct Sales Association’s Code of Ethics.

Why Apply to the DSA?

There are a number of benefits that companies get as a result of being associated with the DSA. It provides a greater level of credibility with prospects. To be able to point to a major trade organization and say your company is a member helps to get over one of the biggest objections to getting started in a direct sales business.

“The members of the Direct Selling Association pride themselves in their commitment to the highest standards in business ethics,” said DSA’s President Neil Offen. “By applying for membership in the association and going through a rigorous approval process, these companies are saying they take their ethical obligations to their field sales force and to the ultimate customer seriously and are willing to make a public pledge to that effect.”

Many of the largest and most prominent direct sales and network marketing companies are long standing members of the Direct Sales Association. These include companies like Avon Products Inc, Mary Kay Inc, Amway, Herbalife International of America, Tupperware and more.

Once approved, companies that are members must continue to uphold the code of ethics promoted by the Direct Selling Association. If they fail to honor that code, their membership can be terminated at any time by the organization.

DSA Code of Ethics

What are some of the requirements and commitments promoted in the Code of Ethics by the DSA? Companies that are members of the organization agree not to engage in any deceptive or unlawful consumer or recruiting practices.

Companies that market physical products must also agree to repurchase products from distributors at reasonable terms if the distributor would like a refund on products that he or she is unable to sell or market. They are not allowed to engage in the practice of “inventory loading.” This is when distributors buy more product than they can actually sell to qualify for a level.
